Power BI Default map

If you use Power BI often, at some point, you must have worked with geographical data; representing sales in different states or countries depending on the data you are working on.

By default, PowerBI displays a map that looks similar to Google map.

But do you know you can display this map in various different formats and display options?

The following steps below will take you from basic to Smart Professional depending on your report. (You must be connected to the internet to actually use the “Filled Maps” option).

  1. State-wise or country-wise column must be an actual state name or country name, not USA-2, for instance.

2. Select filled map option, populate your map by adding the state column to “Location”, add legend, latitude, longitude etc. if necessary.

3. To change the background, click on the Fomat Visuals icon as displayed.

4. Under “Map Settings”, click on “Style”; select your desired background.

Variations of Maps Background.

Greyscale Map
Dark background Map
Light Background Map

Hope this helped…

Keep Learning and Improving.

Ciao…
